Hi,
Has anyone noticed any strange behavior in firefox lately?
I've been getting all kinds of crashes with firefox on my main computer.
It's gotten so bad that I decided to try on another computer.
Having used jaws 13 previously, I decided to give it a go on my wife's computer using nvda.
I started running into the same errors almost immediately.
Both computer's are running win7, and the latest build of firefox.
When browsing, I all the sudden lose speech.
If i alt tab out and back in again, I can sometimes get a firefox not responding message. SOmetimes, if I'm not so lucky, it crashes and I have to shutdown the computer by holding the power button.
It won't let me ctrl alt escape, or alt tab out of the non-responding firefox window.
I can't fathem what's wrong, as I've checked the computers for malware with multiple programs, as well as checking both machines for viruses.
They should both be in top shape, as they're both fairly new.
I don't know if it's a faulty computer, or some stupidity that's been created by jaws - jaws had been on my wife's computer for a while before now-, but I"m at my wits end.
It seems like every computer I install jaws on takes a shit.
When I got my brand new dell last year, I installed jaws and it started locking up as soon as jaws was on there.
Just a thought, but could it be windows? I've seen some strange behavior from windows 7 on many different computers.
Please help.
i've not had any problems with firefox, but i've had plenty of problems like that with my internet explorer. hope you can manage to fix them
This is really difficult without knoing several things.
1. Do you run any programs you always run? Maybe you use the same virus program on every computer you have, so that program is causing your issue. Think about that and see. It have to be something you install after you get the machines, not something that comes with.
2. How is your screen reader installed? From what source?
3. What method do you use to install programs? Maybe your source you installed FireFox from was the same, so when you installed it on the other computer you put the same issue on that one as well.
Just a few things to think about.
Well,
I installed jaws from a download, but i had the key on cd.
Also, I downoaded firefox from the mozilla website.
I can't think of anything I might have on multiple boxes that would cause this issue, but I'll keep it in mind.
Stop using the CD key. Type it fresh. Maybe the CD is curpted some way?
If you don't know your key copy it and than install it on a fresh CD or thumb drive.
You should not have the same issues on 2 different computers unless you are creating it. Have you thought about having them both reformated? This will give you the chance to start fresh and you can only install the programs you must have.
Jaws and FireFox run smoothly and do not have any issues working together, so it has to be something you, or the tech that put both these machines together is doing to them.
what are you talking about?
Firefox works perfectly here with jaws 13 and windows 7. I'm inclined to agree with others it must be something on both machines that is causing the problem.
How's this for irony.
I'm posting to let you know that I've been having the same kinds of issues with FF and Jaws 11 (11 not 13).
Of course, I move down to the message edit field, and Jaws forms-mode refuses to activate and Firefox shifts focus all over the page.
I've tracked the issue down the the FSDomSRV.dll file that Jaws uses to interface with Firefox for my issues. However, I haven't checked with NVDA. The two screen-readers do appear to be using the same API on Firefox's side though, so if something's gorked in Firefox's API, any screen-reader using it is going to suffer.
I hate to suggest it, but try moving back to FF 11/12, and keep off the dodgy sites until you can reupgrade.
If you're having issues on flash-based pages, disable the plugin container (Google for firefox plugin container about:config). Also, try closing pages with ctrl+f4 iinsteadof alt+f4.
Finally, silence speech completely before closing pages or activating links.
If you want to send me a list of URL's off-forum that are particularly problematic, I can take a look and see if there's a common thread between them.

Well, I've reformatted one of the machines and just decided to not install firefox Sure Explorer can be a pain, but I'm done screwing around with ff till they get their code fixed.
Explorer is pretty good except for solving captions, so should work smoothly.
Now since you have reformated how does Jaws work? You didn't use that disc right to put the key in did you?
everything seems to be going smoothely so far. Not having any trouble with the new machine other than the fact that windows media player always crashes.
For some reason on this dell, WMP never worked propperly. Same is true after the reformat. This may have something to do with the audio or video drivers this computer uses.
I've just started using vlc. The only problem is that if wmp gets opened, even a little bit, it crapps out and bad things happen.
Oh well.
Are you running Windows 7? If so there is a fix for that crashing Windows media player.Let me know and I'll tell you how.
yeah. i'm running 7.
Any info you have would be awesome, as this wmp issue is really irritating.
To fix Windows Media Player, or any other program that is causing an issue after a new install or when a program develops an issue.
In the search box on the start menu type “trouble shooting” You will hear it say it before you finish typing, hit enter.
You will hear “control panel” arrow down until you find “View all.” Hit enter.
Now arrow to, in this case, “set Windows Media player to default settings.” And hit enter.
Use the tab key, you don’t need to read the privacy statement, but you are allowing Microsoft access to make changes to the computer. Hit enter on next and follow the prompts.
After it finishes it will not have any music or anything in side it, so will be like new. Enjoy.
